Cartoon Watch: Morland vs. Rowson (and Matt) on Boris as Mayor

Well, as occasionally happens in the world of satire, two of today's cartoons went for a pretty similar idea.

First up is The Times's Morland with an upbeat image of the Boris-City Hall spewing out Ken. And is that the ear of Tony Blair in the bottom left or something/someone else?

This idea was similarly executed in the darker world of the Guardian's Martin Rowson. The Boris Hall is back, this time exchanging eyes and mouth for a distinctly Comic Relief-type nose. A closer look shows Boris wearing a Pearly King outfit alongside David Cameron and an effluent-spewing Gordon Brown on the bank of the river. Also watch out for the Evening Standard boat.

Which leads us nicely onto Matt of the Telegraph's offering...

Cartoon Watch: Carcass of Beef

Also today, Dave Brown of the Independent parodies Side of Beef by Chaim Soutine

Cartoon Watch: His Master's Voice

Well, the results are pretty much in. The Conversatives with Boris Johnson won the mayorship of London, and Labour lost shitloads of local election wards. Politics in Britain is pendulous, and after 11 years of any party the electorate will always feel dissapointed that they don't live in the utopia they were expecting.

A nice one from Morland of The Times today, taking off 'His Master's Voice' as created for The Gramaphone Company, later becoming HMV.

Cartoon Watch: Spending 10p

A pretty cool commentary on the London mayoral elections and current elections in general.

Did you notice...?

  • Spending 10p - a play on 'spending a penny' and the current furore over 10p tax banding
  • The cat is ostensibly Boris Johnson, the Conservative candidate for the post of Mayor of London
  • The David Cameron flea
  • The copy of the Evening Standard in the litter tray - a staunch supporter of Johnson
  • The cat appears to be carving out an image of the river Thames, complete with London's famous bridges, in the litter using his wee
  • The Robert Mugabe turd in the corner
  • What appears to be the dour face of Gordon Brown in a smaller splash of wee on the floor above Mugabe
  • This one's got me stumped... is the ginger cat behind the cat flap Ken Livingstone?
